Today we chat to the lady herself about her design influences, the best things in life and her plans for world domination.Emmy says: My style philosophy? I definitely go for a pretty dress and then jazz it up with some of my favourite Emmy shoes and hair accessories. At the moment I have been wearing my bright fuchsia Chloe shoes with soft dove grey dresses and then a fun chunky necklace.Our new collection has a lot of 50’s accents with points and little neat bows. I have drawn on some of my classic Emmy styles and combined new elements to make them timeless and comfortable but with a new edge.I love 1920’s and 30’s styles because I am drawn to the glamour and elegance of that era. However, in the collection there are ones from the 40’s, 50’s, 60’s and 70’s too. My inspiration very rarely comes from shoes. I find architecture – windows or windows really beautiful and are often the starting point of my designs. Insects and other intricate structures are inspirations to lots of the detailing.
I’d love to design a pair of shoes for Kristen Scott Tomas, I think she’s got the perfect balance of femininity and strength of character. On a more day-to-day level, I’d be pretty chuffed to see Kirsty strutting her stuff in a pair of ‘Emmy’s’ on Location, Location, Location! Then an Emmy bride is a woman who appreciated the finishing touches, believes in investment pieces and the art of indulgence! For most Emmy brides, the chance to wear beautiful bridal shoes is as important as the dress. Shoe lover or no shoe lover, every woman deserves their own Cinderella moment, right,The new collection has manly soft and gentle embellishments such as mother of pearl and small Swarovski crystals in emerald cut shapes to give the shoes a slightly ethereal feel. Then on some of the classic 50’s points, structured bows made from soft suede or metallic leathers.My favourite piece from this collection has to be the Natasha clutch with the chain strap. It can be embellished with any trim to match a hair or shoe embellishment or just plain glamorous on its own. I’m taking my Natasha Clutch and Valerie shoes to a friend’s wedding later on this year, but I think I might have to wear them before as I can’t wait! Our signature piece would be the Leila or Francesca shoe.
I think beautiful dresses from the 1950’s work particularly well with Emmy Shoes, as they are often short and show them off really well. A lot of the new collection is also based on 1950’s points with bows and lace so a short dress would naturally work. I also think from dresses from current designers such as Jenny Packham and Alice Temperley pair well with Emmy shoes.
I have named two styles after my lovely little girls, and then the rest are names that I think are pretty. Sometimes they are names of family members or friends and sometimes ones that we have fun making up in the studio.
