Bridal party shoes biography

I have only been bridesmaid twice, both causal weddings. One I wore a dress I owned already, the other dress was bought by the bride (not too exxy).
I have been invited to be MOH for my best mate (yay!), and she has decided on our bridemaids dresses. I am very lucky, the dress is stunning but expensive ($300ish).
What is the etiquette these days, do I offer to pay or does she offerI think some brides pay, some don't. If I were the bride I would absolutely pay. The bride chooses the dress (which the bridesmaids may or may not like), and the dress may never be worn again! I also think the bride should pay for any shoes specially requested and hair/make up. But I know many would disagree with me.
I was a bridesmaid three times. I wore my own shoes each time. Dress/hair/make up paid for by the bride.Depends on the situation.

Sister paid for her. MIL paid for SILs. Friend was highly strapped for cash so I paid for hers.I've been a bridesmaid twice and never had to pay for the dresses, when I got married I paid for the bridesmaids dresses, shoes makeup etc.
Same with when friends and relatives have got married. I have both paid for my dress and had my dress paid for. When my dress was paid for I paid for the alterations. When I was married I told my bridesmaids if it was over X cost I would pay the difference. But the dresses we chose were under $200 and both of my bridesmaids were happy to pay, They paid for shoes and I paid for hair/make up and flowers. I think it depends.
I paid for the fabric, pattern, zip etc for my bridesmaids. They arranged to have them made (one had her mum make it, another had a friend). I also paid for shoes and make up.
I deliberately kept the costs down because I was so very grateful that my best friend was flying home from Austria for my wedding. She arrived on Wednesday and the wedding was Saturday. The dress was lovely but very simple; something that could be whipped up in two days! whoever chooses the dress pays generally
This. As a bride I could never pick a dress for someone and ask them to pay for it!
I asked my bridesmaids to pick a black dress and sent them a couple of hundred for it.In my family the bride pays. But different familys and cultures have different expectations.The bride and groom pay (IMO - for my wedding I am not saying what others should or should not do!)I was asked to be bridesmaid and was told what we would be wearing, colour, style and no compromise at all. The dress cost close to $800 and was very poorly made. I did have to back out as I just could not afford it.
My bridesmaid wore a dress she already had so it cost her nothing. I've been a bridesmaid twice and both times I had to pay for everything: dress, shoes, makeup, hair etc. There were never any offers from the bridal party to contribute.Bride should pay I think.It is her wedding, her choice.
As far as hair, makeup, flowers it would never occur to me that the bridesmaids would pay for these.We went halves, dress was about $300 and nice. I just asked them to wear nice black formal shoes and one of the bridesmaids had their hairdone with me to meet the minimum cost. And we didn't have a make up artist, my mum did the makeup and she used to sell Mary Kay. So I knew she would do it nice.
